Abstract:
In this talk we will discuss short pulse typed equations for modeling high performance optical systems. In particular, we will derive the short pulse equation (SPE) in nonlinear metamaterials. For a larger class of equations including the SPE we will discuss different types of singularities. Finally, we will discuss that the SPE, as a continuation from the modified Korteweg de Vries equation, can relate to the nonlinear Schrodinger equation through multi-scale ansatz as the pulse width varies from the ultra short regime to the classical slow varying envelope approximation.
